The Accountant I performs a variety of general accounting support tasks inclusive of balancing the daily postings of the credit union, maintaining balance sheet schedules and account reconciliations. Assists with monthly closings and account analysis and supporting the Controller.
Requirements

• Processes the credit union daily work.
• Balances the credit union daily teller work and reports any outages.
• Reconciles and maintains balance sheet accounts as assigned.
• Performs General Ledger operations.
• Performs timely and accurate completion of all month-end, quarter-end, and year-end book closings.
• Serves as backup to Accounts Payable.
• Prepares monthly and daily financial reports for management.
• Responsible for preparation of various download files.
• Prepares daily cash requirements and request transfer of funds per policy requirements.
• Assists with the annual completion of the Escheat Report.
• Assists with implementing and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures.
• Responsible for the monthly preparation of Six Pillars accounting and financials.
• Responsible for reconciling the Documentary Stamp general ledger account monthly; processes the report and files it before the deadline.
• Reconcile Sales Tax general ledger account monthly; process the report and file it before the deadline.
• Reconciles various other General Ledger accounts as assigned by management.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• A minimum of a Bachelor's degree or candidates currently enrolled in coursework towards completion of Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or related field of study or 5 years of accounting experience.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in the accounting department of a mid to large sized company is preferred.
• Prior experience in a financial institution is preferred.
• Considerable knowledge of principles of accounting and analytical skills.
• Must possess excellent interpersonal skills with strong communication.
• Ability to operate Windows based computer and has strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Must be diligent and self-motivated with attention to detail.
• Ability to multitask is an asset.
• Must have excellent follow-up and tracking skills.
